Spicy Orange-Pecan Buns
1/4 cup granulated sugar 3 teasp. double-acting baking powder 3 tablesp. flour 1/2 teasp. cinnamon 1 teasp. salt 1/2 teasp. nutmeg 1/4 cup shortening 2 tablesp. butter or margarine 1/2 cup chopped pecans 1 egg, slightly beaten 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1/2 cup orange juice 1/2 cup orange marmalade 1/4 cup granulated sugar
L Start heating oven to 375° F. For topping, combine 1/4 cup sugar, 3 tablesp. flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg; with pastry blender or two knives, used scissor-fashion. cut in butter until mixture is crumbly; set aside.
2. Into large bowl, sift 2 cups flour with 1/4 cup sugar. baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture looks like coarse meal; stir in pecans.
3. Mix egg, orange juice, marmalade; add to flour mixture. stirring with spoon just until mixture is moistened.
4. Spoon dough into twelve 2 1/2" paper-lined or greased muffin-pan cups; sprinkle with reserved topping. Bake 20 to 25 min. Makes 1 doz.
